Todd Conway, MD

Position at EPIC:

Personal and professional history:

Dr. Conway received an undergraduate degree in Biochemistry in 1984 and a Doctor of Medicine degree in 1988—both from the University of Iowa. He then went on to complete a three-year medical residency in Family Practice at Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa in Mason City, Iowa (completed in 1991). He is board certified in Family Medicine and maintains his certification through the American Board of Family Medicine (ABFM). He has recently completed all the necessary course requirements for the Institute of Functional Medicine and is scheduled to take the certification exam in the fall of 2019.

He has spent the majority of his medical career (over 25 years) practicing emergency/acute care medicine. He has, however, been personally very interested in Functional Medicine for over 20 years (doing independent self-study) and has recently decided to obtain more formal certification in Functional Medicine through the Institute of Functional Medicine. His desire is to finish his medical/clinical career promoting and practicing Functional Medicine.

Why I joined the EPIC team and what Functional Medicine means to me:

I believe that EPIC Functional Medicine is on target to become the “gold standard” practice model for Functional Medicine in the Midwest and I am excited to be a part of it. I’ve been studying the theory of Functional Medicine long enough and I’m finally excited about the opportunity to begin the application of Functional Medicine in a highly respected, quality clinical environment… I believe that EPIC is the perfect place to do this.

My abbreviated definition of Functional Medicine – helping one human being at a time experience the vibrant health and wellness needed to serve the purpose for which they were designed. To help them discover their “why” for wanting to be healthy and partner with them to find the motivation they need to first, make the necessary foundational lifestyle changes, and then dig a little deeper, if need be, to uncover the root/core issues that are impacting their health in a negative way. To appreciate their “big picture” and to restore “balance” to their core biologic “systems”. To better understand their unique biochemical/genetic individuality and use the best that medical research/science has to offer – in combination with clinical expertise and patient preference – to best help them achieve the vibrant health and wellness they desire. In short, I’d like to put myself out of business…

Fun Fact:

I attended the Hypnotherapy Training Institute (Feb 2015) to study medical hypnotherapy.
